Berbice ‘Money Changers’ robbed at gunpoint

The Police in ‘B’ Division are investigating the armed robbery which was committed against 38-year-old Jaipaul Heralall of Cotten Tree, West Coast Berbice and 53-year-old Barnwell Mohabir of Good Hope, West Bank Berbice.

The incident occurred at approximately 08:55hrs on Sunday, November 12, 2017, on the Rosignol Public Road, as the two ‘money changers’ were conducting business. News Room understands that the victims observed a Silver Grey 212 motorcar bearing registration number PPP 5951, which stopped on the southern side of the said road.

News Room was told that two suspects exited the car, armed with guns; one of them held Heralall at gunpoint and told him to hand over everything he had in his possession. Upon seeing, Mohabir attempted to intervene, but the other suspect placed a gun to his left side and demanded all his valuables.

In fear, the victims handed over a quantity of local and foreign currency amounting to over $1M and their cell phones.

Commander of ‘B’ Division, Linden Alves disclosed that the matter was reported to the police just after 9:30 hrs and a roadblock was immediately set up at the Weldaad Police Station but the police failed to make any arrest. Investigations are ongoing.
