The management of Giftland has taken a decision to reduce the entrance fee to the Mall from the initially stated $3,000 to $1,000. This was communicated to News Room via an email and a public advisory issued on Tuesday morning.
According to the advisory, the fee will now only be applicable at selected times on Sunday, December 24, 2017.
Additionally, it was clarified that persons above the age of 25 and VIP customers will not be charged the entrance fee, neither will family or kids accompanied by one or both of their parents.
Chairman of Giftland Mall, Roy Beepat on Monday stated that the measure which is being implemented in connection with the Guyana Police Force is a form of crowd control to ensure the security of shoppers.
He also sought to clarify that the Company is not against young people visiting the mall but there have been instances in the past where youths spend their time causing trouble for other customers.
“I don’t want anybody to feel that Giftland is against young people. In fact, if you look at the stores and video arcade and food concessions, we’re very, very pro-kids. However, you know…if it’s not controlled properly, it does get out of hand,” Beepat noted in Monday’s interview.
The Chairman told News Room that due to the success of the initiative last year, customers and businesses requested its re-implementation.
The company has also extended its parking area and asked for the assistance of the Aquatic Centre and the Arthur Chung Convention Centre to allow customers the comfort of parking there during the busy holiday season.
