Rubis Guyana Inc. has partnered with Ross’ Service Station to open up its newest state-of-the-art outlet at Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

The service station represents Rubis’ tenth location and its continued commitment in Guyana.

Managing Director of Rubis Guyana Inc., Mauricio Nicholls, during the official opening ceremony on Wednesday, renewed the company’s commitment to Guyana as he explained its role in the partnership.

“We do our part by promoting our brand and making sure that the Guyanese consumer has a preference for our brand. We offer high-quality fuels that perform very well in their vehicles and hopefully through their conviction will reward them with our preference,” he stated.

Nicholls said the company is also committed to innovative programmes and investing in technology to improve the business in all aspects of safety, service delivery, efficiency, and effectiveness.

Caretta Ross-Hopkinson, the proprietor of the Ross’ Service Station, reflected on the history of her family’s business in the industry.

“Ross’ Service Station was first a shell dealership. Then, it became the first dealer owned GuyOil Service Station. On August 15, 2015, after 56 continuous years of service, the decision was made to close this well-known family establishment,” she related.

Mrs. Ross-Hopkinson said she along with her husband and siblings subsequently decided to rebuild and reopen the facility.

“During the renovations, Sean [her husband] and I envisioned a modern, state-of-the-art station and close to completion, the Rubis team – headed by Rhonda Johnson – saw our vision behind a zinced fence, literally behind a zinced fence and this is where this partnership began,” the businesswoman explained.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA), Dr Mahender Sharma lauded the companies’ recognition of the need to modernise and improve its services.

“Modernisation certainly helps to improve many things. It helps to provide a framework for you, the people of Guyana, your staff to enjoy the facilities and when something is fresh and new, it always motivates and inspires,” he stated.

Dr Sharma added that “branding and image modernization are very useful tools in promoting a business since a company’s image will have a lasting impact on the attitude of both customers and employees.”

He also charged drivers to be energy efficient when using their vehicles.

“Little things like not driving around with a lot of weight in your vehicles also add to your fuel consumption numbers. Simple things like ensuring your tyres are properly inflated play an important role, routine maintenance, planning errands to combine your trips, avoid unnecessary idling – some drivers believe they need to turn on your vehicles and leave it for five minutes to warm it up, well, that’s not correct. The best way to warm up your vehicle is to drive it.”

Dr Sharma also explained that excessive speeding also contributes to the inefficiency of fuel consumption.

The service station, which includes a minimart, will operate from 7 am to 10 pm Mondays to Saturdays.

Rubis is an established French-based international private limited company founded in 1990. It is one of the leading suppliers of premium aviation fuels in the Caribbean.

Rubis operates in 17 territories in the Caribbean, managing a network of over 350 service stations in the region.
