For the first time, three teams will be representing the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) in a major international softball cricket tournament. The three local teams will head off to compete in the Orlando Cup 2, slated for March 16-18.
The traditional Floodlights will be joined by Floodlights Legends (Over-50) and for the first time, Ariel Speedboat will be representing the Association in the Open category.
The Ariel Speedboat is in fine form, winning six consecutive tournaments recently in Guyana, including Guyana Softball Cup 6 and Guyana Softball Cup 7.
The selectors of the GFSCA met recently and named the three teams as follows:
Ariel Speedboat (Open): Ricky Sergeant, Vaickesh Dhaniram, Avinash Dhaniram, Anand Bharat, Kishore Kevin Smith, Lennox Walter Mark, Mark Harold, Greg Singh, Shazim Hussain, Bepaul Bandoo, Ganesh Narine, Ian Marvin Ivan, Imran Hamid, Devendra Kooblall, Navindra Kooblall, Chien Gittens and Travis Drakes.
Floodlights: Lloyd Rooplall, Ramo Malone, Jagdish Persaud, Ramesh Narine Deonarine, Uniss Yusuf, Khemraj Sumair, Clive Canterbury, Robert Mohan, Vishwanauth Lutchman, Mahesh Lutchman, Tulsi Lutchman, Imtiaz Mohamed Saffie, Anil Beharry and Pooran Singh.
Floodlights Legends: Dharamraj Persaud, Lakhram Singh, Ramesh Sunich, Ricky Deonarain, Wayne Jones, Dennis Mangru, Seeraj Bhimsain, Vivakanand Ramsaywack, Petamber Maharaj, Rabindra Singh, Seemangal Yadram, Jailall Deodass, Goordial Matai, Rohan Bhoodraj and Arjune Badal.
The GFSCA also announced that Guyana Softball Cup 8 will be played at grounds in and around Georgetown on October 26-28, 2018. Teams from Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, New York and Canada will join local counterparts vying for top honours in the tournament. The competition will be held in the Over-45, Over-50 and Open categories.
