Guyana will be represented by Finance Minister, Winston Jordan, and Governor of the Bank of Guyana, Gobind Ganga at this year’s Spring Meetings of Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG).
The meeting will be in Washington, D.C., United States of America (USA) from April 16-22, 2018.
Minister of State, Joseph Harmon made the announcement on Thursday, March 29. He said these events will provide Guyana with opportunities to interact with leading personalities and organisations to discuss issues important to economic development and finance.
The meetings will bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, parliamentarians, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organisations, and academics, to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness.
Seminars, regional briefings, press conferences, and many other events focused on the global economy, international development, and the world’s financial system are featured.
The country will also be represented by Director General (ag), Civil Defence Commission (CDC), Lt. Col. Kester Craig at the Ninth Technical Advisory Committee Meeting of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) to be held in Barbados from April 16-20, 2018.
Guyana’s participation will ensure that the CDC is kept up-to-date with the recent developments related to Disaster Risk Management in the Caribbean.
The working sessions will review reports from the sub-committees of CDEMA, plan the annual work programme and make recommendations to its Council Meeting.
CDEMA is the regional facilitator, driver, coordinator and motivating force for the promotion and engineering of Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) in all participating states.
Its functions include mobilising and coordinating disaster relief; mitigating or eliminating, as far as practicable, the immediate consequences of disasters in participating states; providing immediate and coordinated response by means of emergency disaster relief to any affected state and securing, coordinating and providing to interested inter-governmental and non-governmental organisations reliable and comprehensive information on disasters affecting any participating state.
