Dhanraj Maraj died at the Mahaicony Hospital, hours after he stabbed his young wife to death and ingested a poisonous substance.
The 43-year-old man was a labourer who fathered two children with the now dead 23-year-old Deomattie Persaud of Belmont, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD). He has two other children from a previous relationship.
Maraj and Persaud shared an eight-year relationship, which began when she was 15-years-old.
Their two children – ages 5 and 7 – are said to be staying with her sisters. News Room had reported that Persaud was constantly abused by her husband and have moved out of the home several times.
Reports are that Persaud arrived at the home in a taxi to pick up the children but her husband dragged her out of the car and stabbed her several times. The woman was left to bleed on the road and eventually succumbed.
