Heavy rainfall in the city has forced organisers of the ExxonMobil Secondary Schools Under-14 Boys and Girls football tournament to delay the start of the competition.
The 24-team event was slated to kick off Saturday (June 2), but will now start on June 9 at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue.
“Please be informed that due to inclement weather we are unable to prepare the venue for a start tomorrow (Saturday) and as such we have rescheduled the start of this program for next Saturday 2018-06-09 at the Ministry of Education Ground,” the Petra Organisation informed the media on Friday.
“At this point in time we want to thank everyone who is involved directly and indirectly in making this tournament a reality. Looking forward to seeing you come next week.”
When action gets underway next Saturday, all 24 teams would be in action with kick-off time being 11:00h. Two games will be played at the same time.
For the first two weeks only the boys will be in action, as the girls will be involved in technical training under the guidance of Guyana Football Federation officials.
