A 32-year-old year old Police Officer is nursing eight stab wounds after he was attacked while on patrol duties.
The incident occurred at approximately 18:38hrs on Monday at Lad Lane, New Amsterdam. News Room understands that officer Randy Claxton received stab wounds to the neck, hip, forearm and back.
According to reports, Claxton and a colleague, who are attached to the Anti-Crime Motorcycle Patrol, were on duty at Main and Pitt Street, New Amsterdam when they noticed a group of men smoking what was suspected to be marijuana.
The duo approached the men but one of them ran away. The cops gave chase and caught the suspect.
While the cops conducted a search on his person, several persons gathered, during which a man identified as ‘Shaquan’ attacked Officer Claxton.
News Room understands that when Officer Claxton saw the man with the knife, he warned him to put the weapon away, however, the suspect continued walking towards the Police Officer and dealt him several stabs about the body.
The suspect escaped.
The cop is in a stable condition at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Earlier today, Commander of ‘B’ Division, Lyndon Alves and a team visited the Officer at the Hospital and promised to capture the suspect.
