A post-mortem performed on the body of three-year-old Ramdeo Ferreira by Dr Nehaul Singh Monday morning found that he died from a stab wound to the heart.
His 26-year old mother remains in police custody after she reportedly stabbed him at their Foulis, East Coast Demerara home on Saturday.
Brenda Ferreira told police officers that she had a dream she was going to die and wanted her favourite child to be with her in the afterlife.
The toddler’s older brother who witnessed the incident ran to neighbours who summoned the police. The toddler was found in a pool of blood and died at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The child’s father lost his job following the closure of the Enmore Sugar Estate and now works at a sawmill company. He was not at home at the time of the incident.
Neighbours say the woman would often mistreat her children and at one point, they contacted the Child Care and Protection Agency but when officials arrived, no one was home and the officials never returned.
