Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an accident which resulted in the death of a 24-year-old motorcyclist on St Ignatius Bridge, Central Rupunini, Lethem, Region Nine on Monday night.
Reports are that Sylvester DeMendonca of lot 41 Lethem Central Rupunini, was proceeding on motorcycle PJJ 7485 along the St Ignatius public road at a fast rate of speed and failed to stop at the St Ignatius Bridge, which is constructed to facilitate only one vehicle at a time.
News Room understands that a motor pickup, driven by a 45-year-old man of St Ignatius Village, Rupununi was proceeding south on the Bridge and collided with the motorcycle.
DeMendonca reportedly lost control and fell onto the said Bridge. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the motor pick-up was arrested and is in custody assisting with the investigation.
