Cop dies days after East Bank accident
The Guyana Police Force mourns the death of Sergeant 16542 Joseph Elton Ambrose, who died at around 1:00hrs Thursday at the Georgetown Public Hospital four days after being involved in an accident.
A statement from the Police Force noted that the Subordinate Officer crashed into a parked lorry on the Herstelling Public Road, East Bank Demerara on December 9.
Sergeant Ambrose, who joined the Force on January 11, 1995, was married and was the father of two.
“The always pleasant, respected, dedicated and committed policeman was on 500 days accumulated vacation leave which commenced on April 9 last,” the Police Force said in its statement.
He was stationed at Alberttown Police Station and resided at Herstelling.
At the time of the accident, he was driving motorcar PMM 9099 north along the western carriageway of the road when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the rear of the motor lorry.
The motor lorry GLL 5592 police said, was properly parked.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted tomorrow.
