Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo has requested a meeting with President David Granger following Friday night’s stunning No Confidence vote when a member of the governing Coalition defected and voted in favour of the motion.

ACF Member of Parliament Charandas Persaud defected and voted for the No-Confidence Motion, giving the PPP a win against the Government side, paving the way for fresh elections in three months

The PPP had 32 seats in the House and needed one more vote to win.

“Clearly the country requires leadership at this time given the unprecedented nature of the No Confidence motion.

“I just want to make it clear to all of Guyana that this is a remedy provided for in the constitution; we were hoping more would have voted for our arguments,” Jagdeo told the News Room after.

Mr Jagdeo told the News Room that he personally did not speak with Mr Persaud before the vote.

He said he had spoken with Minister of State Joseph Harmon and requested to “have a talk” with the President on the way forward.
