The Rugby Americas North (RAN) South Zone 15’s final which was initially billed for the Guyana Defence Force ground, Base Camp Ayanganna, Saturday, will now be held at the Athletics area in the National Park from 15:00h.
At Thursday’s briefing, which revealed Banks DIH through their iconic Banks Beer as the main sponsor, the organsisers had stated the inclement weather could force a switch.
Additionally, match coordinator Terrence Stuart revealed Guyana has not played Guadalupe since 1999 when they hosted the Southern Caribbean Championships.
“We don’t know much about them since they have been away from Caribbean rugby apart from a sevens tournament in 2016. The French style has always to be to work from their forwards so we will have to contain their forwards as much as possible to sit in the winner’s row,” Stuart contended.
The team is coming off a string of five defeats and captain Jamal Angus stated they have adopted a new style of play which is more fluent and allows more of a team effort in attacking.
Should Guyana win, they play Bermuda on May 11 in the North versus South clash for the overall RAN title.
The winner of that fixture will have the right to play the loser of the Mexico versus the Cayman Islands in the latter half of the year for promotion into the Americas Challenge Championships.
Guyana’s 23-man Squad: Jason Tyrell, Keifer Lopez, Rondell McArthur, Jose, Felicien, Vallon Adams, Jamal Angus, Cloyd Prowell, Godfrey Broomes, Avery Corbin, Rickford Cummings, Peabo Hamilton, Ronald Mayers, Lancelot Adonis, Cyon Kitt, Phabian Joseph, Glenroy Pool, Selwyn Henry, Osie McKenzie, Kevon David, Oneil Charles and Joseph Rahaman.
