Sarah Chance of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, was on Friday sentenced to one-year imprisonment for smuggling 23 grams of cannabis to a prisoner who was in the lockup at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Chance, a 34-year-old mother of three was on trial before City Magistrate Rhondel Weaver who found her guilty of smuggling the illegal drugs inside the sole of a pair of boots on January 23.
The woman did not have legal representation and the matter was prosecuted by Police Officer, Simone Payne.
According to reports, Chance knows the prisoner as they have been in communication for over three months.
On the day in question, when officers at the court told Chance they needed to search the boots, she began to act in a suspicious manner.
Chance had told the court that she was only trying to help out a friend by dropping off the boots to the prisoner.
