The Alliance for Change (AFC) Saturday voted by a majority to replace Moses Nagamootoo as the party’s next Prime Ministerial candidate for the upcoming general elections.
Khemraj Ramjattan secured the votes of over 200 persons following discussion on a motion of who should be the next Prime Ministerial Candidate. Mr Nagamootoo only secured a handful of votes.
Mr Nagamootoo said that he withdrew from the discussion on the motion because he did not want to influence the outcome.
The Cummingsburg Accord, which the multi-party bloc APNU signed with the AFC in a Coalition to contest and win the 2015 general elections, prescribes that APNU will choose the Presidential Candidate and the AFC will choose the Prime Ministerial Candidate.
