National 400 metres record-holder and South American gold medalist, Winston George, is set to compete at this year’s National Seniors, albeit not in the 400 metres. The event is set for this weekend, June 29-30, at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.
It is understood that George, who is currently training in the United States of America, has been telling persons close to him that he will not be running the 400 metres.
While the decision by the Olympian is perplexing, sources close to George and the Athletics Association of Guyana did note that he is not registered for that race at the event.
Further, it is the belief that George is fitter for the 100 and 200 metres over the 400 metres. Contacted for a comment on the possible shift in focus, George would only say “we’ll see.”
