A 24 -year-old pregnant woman who reportedly threw dirty water on supporters of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) during a protest last Friday, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court Monday charged with assault.

Cassandra Amsterdam of Barack and High Streets, Kingston Georgetown, appeared before City Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

It is alleged that on July 19, 2019, Amsterdam unlawfully assaulted Yanalla Dalrymple at Barack and High Streets, the court was told.

The News Room had reported that on the day in question, supporters of the PPP were protesting the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to begin preparations for General and Regional Elections, when Amsterdam, who was in a yard next door, approached the fence and threw a bucket of filthy water at the crowd.

She was arrested at the scene by Police.

In court, Amsterdam said it was not a bucket of water but a cup of water instead.

Amsterdam was released on $5,000 bail and the matter was transferred to the Magistrate Rhondel Weaver for September 9, 2019.
