A 19-year-old Durban Street, Lodge resident on Wednesday appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan accused of snatching a woman’s cell phone, while she was seated in a Route 48 minibus.

Chris Pollard, who is currently on bail for five robbery charges, pleaded not guilty to the simple larceny charge when it was read to him and released on bail again.

It is alleged that Pollard on August 5, 2019, at Croal Street, Georgetown, stole a Samsung phone valued $35,000 from Sasha Pestano.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that on the day in question, Pestano was seated next to the window in a route 48 minibus and was using her cell phone when Pollard snatched it and escaped.

The matter was reported to the Stabroek Police Outpost and based on information received, Pollard was arrested. He was searched and the cellphone was found in his possession.

The Chief Magistrate released Pollard on $15,000 bail and adjourned the matter to August 27, 2019.
