Murder of ‘Fabulous’: Charge dismissed against Kitty man, others to stand trial

Twenty-six-year old Kacey Heyliger walked out of the Providence Magistrate’s Court a free man Friday after a murder charge against him was dismissed.

Heyliger of Station Street, Kitty, Georgetown; Kerwin DaSantos and George Hope, both 25 of Freeman Street, La Penitence were before Magistrate Judy Latchman for the murder of money changer, Shawn Nurse known as ‘Fabulous.’

At the end of the Preliminary Inquiry, the Magistrate found that there was insufficient evidence against Heyliger but she is satisfied that there is enough evidence against DaSantos and Hope.

They were committed to stand trial at the next practical sitting of the Demerara Assizes.

Dead: Shawn Nurse

The matter was prosecuted by Police Corporal Shawn Gonsalves.

News Room understands that investigators were able to arrest the suspects after reviewing surveillance footage which captured the murder.

Police had noted that Nurse was sitting in a chair plying his trade when the armed perpetrator approached him from a northern direction and demanded that he hand over his money.

Nurse resisted and the perpetrator discharged a round hitting him in his left cheek, resulting in his death.
