City Magistrate Leron Daly on Friday remanded a 37-year-old Dominican national to prison for stealing over $300,0000 from a man’s pants pocket after he fell asleep in a hotel room with her at Parika, East Bank Essequibo.
Zilineli Richard, a mother of one, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on September 4, 2019, at Parika, she stole $340,000 from Wayne Yahya.
According to reports, on September 3, 2019, Richard was at the Parika Junction, where she met Yahya and the two spent the night at a nearby hotel.
It is alleged that Yahya counted his money, placed it in the back pants pocket and secured the pants in a wardrobe.
At About 05:00 hrs the next day, Yahya woke up and discovered Richard was gone and the money was missing.
The man reported the matter to the Police and Richard was arrested; some of the money was recovered.
It is alleged that Richard, under caution told the Police that she only stole $91,000 from the man’s pocket.
Magistrate Daly denied bail on the grounds that the accused is a flight risk.
Richard was remanded to prison until September 11, 2019, where she will face Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
