A 26-year-old miner was on Wednesday sentenced to a total of eight years imprisonment on two counts of armed robbery, assaulting and wounding Police Officers.
Orin Ridley of Campbell Street, Albouystown, Georgetown was on trial before City Magistrate Anneth Singh and was found guilty of the charges. The matters were prosecuted by Police Officer Visram Ramjattan.
He was sentenced to three years jail on each of the robbery charges, one-year imprisonment each for the assault and wounding charge. Magistrate Singh ordered that the sentences run concurrently which means that Ridley will only serve three years behind bars.
Particulars of the first charge stated that on January 31, 2019, at Albert Street, Albouystown, Ridley while being armed with a gun, robbed Sanela Ramlakan of a BLU cell phone and other items amounting to $24,000.
The second charge stated that on the same day in question, Ridley while being armed with a gun, robbed Akash Ramlakan of an $18,000 bicycle.
The third charge noted that on March 12, 2019, at Campbell and Sussex Street, Albouystown, Ridley wounded Police Corporal, Clive Clarke with intent to prevent his lawful apprehension.
The last charge stated that on the same day in question, Ridley assaulted Police Officer Nigel Reid.
