A 17-year-old boy was on Thursday sentenced to four years imprisonment after he was found guilty by a 12-member jury of raping a 6-year-old girl in 2016.
The sentencing was handed down by Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall in the Sexual Offenders Court at the Demerara High Court.
In September, the teenager was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of consent between November 16, 2016, and November 30, 2016
The teen will serve his time at the New Opportunity Corps (NOC).
According to reports, the child was playing in the yard when the accused, who was 13-years-old at the time, committed the act.
The matter was reported to the Police and the teenager was arrested.
