A 44-year-old man on Monday confessed to the gruesome killing of his wife Candacy Pitt, called Cindy who was hacked to death at the Bygeval Secondary School, Mahaica East Coast Demerara, where she had worked as a security guard.
Athlone Pitt called Buddy, formerly of Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demera appeared before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow to face the charge of murder, but opted to plea to the lesser count of manslaughter.
He confessed that on June 1, 2016 he unlawfully killed his wife. He will be sentenced on October 23.
According to reports, Athlone and Candacy were married for over 13 years and lived together at Chelsea Park, Mahaica. It was reported that Athlone was abusive and was jealous of his wife.
Because Athlone was unemployed, his wife began working as a security guard at Bygeval Secondary School to maintain the family.
On June 1, 2016, Athlone attacked his wife at her workplace and dealt her multiple chops about her body.
The woman was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
