(New York Daily News) Maybe she saw the best in him — “he promised her he’d change,” Donne Dojoy’s grieving sister recounted Saturday.
But Dojoy’s husband was so filled with senseless rage, he assaulted her weeks after they wed in July, and took her life Friday night by stabbing her over and over in his Queens apartment.
“I guess she wanted to give him another chance,” said Dojoy’s sister, Fannita Barakat, who flew in from Texas to join horrified relatives as they mourned a woman Barakat remembers as “great, hardworking and funny, and just very generous and loving.”
“I guess in the end, he was heartless for her,” said Barakat.
Dojoy, 27, had an order of protection against her husband, 33-year-old Dineshwar Budhidat.
The order came in a court case that stemmed from his arrest Aug. 21 for slapping and strangling Dojoy a week earlier inside their apartment on Albert Road near Whitelaw St. in Ozone Park.
At a court appearance Wednesday, Budhidat pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. He was to be sentenced in January, and the order of protection remained in place until then, sources with knowledge of the case said.
Dojoy, one of seven siblings and a bartender at Gemini’s Ultra Lounge in Ozone Park, moved out of the marital home to a house in South Ozone Park.
She died Friday night visiting her estranged husband’s pad — despite his history of attacking her, and despite the court order meant to keep them apart.
Budhidat texted a cousin to say he’d killed Dojoy and was going to kill himself.
The cousin called 911, and soon police found Dojoy dead.
Cops found Budhidat’s body a short time later, hanging from a tree in Brooklyn’s Spring Creek Park, about a mile and a half away from the bloody murder scene.
“Tears can’t stop pouring for you baby girl, you didn’t deserve this,” Wanda Garib, a co-worker at the Gemini Ultra Lounge in Queens, wrote on Facebook early Saturday.
“I knew you since you first came to this country, we once lived under the same roof and we share many laughters (and) memories together,” Garib wrote. “Not only were u my coworker but u were also a friend.”
“She’s full of positive vibes. She always had a loving, nurturing personality,” said a cousin, Anthony Dojoy, who visited a makeshift shrine outside the Gemini Ultra Lounge.
“It has to be jealousy,” the cousin said. “Because there’s nothing else—she’s sincere, genuine, honest.”

Dojoy’s neighbors were stunned to learn of her death.
“In a neighborhood that is quiet and safe that is really painful to see this happen,” said neighbor Giuseppe Buccellato.
If Budhidat was so unhappy, he should have just taken his own life and left his wife alone, Bucellato, 52, said.
“If you want kill yourself, just walk away,” he said. “But there is no good reason to kill anyone else.”
“No one should take the life of another person,” he said.
