An 80-year-old vendor was on Wednesday remanded to prison by City Magistrate Faith McGusty for the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Carl Vanrossum of Mocha, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on November 25, 2019, at South Road, Georgetown, he had a.38 revolver in his possession without being the holder of a firearm license.
Prosecutor Ceon Blackman told the court that Police received a tip which led them to South Road when they observed the elderly man walking with a black plastic bag in his possession.
The ranks approached Vanrossum and requested to conduct a search when they found the unlicensed weapon in the bag.
The Prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness of the charge and the penalty it attracts. The elderly man was remanded to prison until December 11, 2019.
