Section of Leguan stelling collapses
A section of the Leguan stelling, Essequibo Islands collapsed on Monday afternoon.
The News Room was reliably informed that no one was injured as a result of the incident which occurred at approximately 16:00hrs.
The stelling has been in a deplorable state for quite some time.
In September 2018, the Government revealed that a contract valued $413M was awarded to S. Maraj Contracting Services to repair the stelling.
The engineer’s estimate for the project was $455 million.
The News Room attempted to get a comment from the Transport and Harbours Department but was told that no one is available to speak with the media. The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has promised to issue a statement on the incident.
