Top Cop donates $400k to ‘A’ Division at annual awards ceremony
More than 50 ranks in Region Four Division ‘A’ were awarded for their contributions to the Guyana Police Force in fighting crime this year.
Emerging as the best cop was Sergeant Clive Clark who received a trophy, cash incentives, food hampers and a television set among other items.
Sergeant Clark was prevented by his seniors from speaking to the media about his accomplishments.
The ranks were honoured and awarded at the division’s annual Christmas luncheon and award ceremony which was hosted at the Brickdam Police Station on Tuesday.
Newly appointed Regional Commander for the Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Senior Superintendent Edgar Thomas noted that the Division prosecuted and solved many crimes and also prevented several crimes this year.
The Commander highlighted that seven murder cases were successfully solved this year which occurred in the Division.
The perpetrators in the murder cases for Liloutie Etwaroo, Ricardo Singh, Richard Noel, Deonarine Liliah, Gopaul Liliah, Shanece Lawrence and Jason De Florimonte, were all charged.
The latest murder to occur in the region was Tuesday morning.
“Our task is to prosecute offenders, to deal with these social aspects of humanity,” the Regional Commander said.
Delivering the feature address was Commissioner of Police Leslie James who told the ranks that they must execute their duties without fear, malice and ill will.
He urged that the ranks engage the public professionally and also highlighted a minor 1.3% reduction in all categories of serious crime.
“I urge that while you engage the public you do so with much assertiveness, you do so with professional conduct and you do so with the understanding that you are representing an Organisation that deals with law and order,” the Police Commissioner said.
A number of ranks were also promoted at the ceremony including Richard Trotz and Keyon Ward who were promoted to Corporals.
Female ranks Delicia Orna, Cassandra Argyle and Tamesha Adams were promoted to Lance Corporal and Corporal Hicks who is stationed at the Stabroek Outpost was promoted to Sergeant.
