Three men were on Wednesday remanded to prison for the murder of Essequibo businessman Shawn ‘Paperman’ Mannilall.
The men are brothers Carlton and Carl Carter and Delhoya McKenzie. They appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The trio were not required to plea to the charge which alleged that on January 10, 2020, at Queenstown, Essequibo, they murdered Mannilall during the course or furtherance of a robbery.
Magistrate McGusty remanded the men to prison and transferred the matter to the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court for January 29, 2020.
According to reports, on January 10, 2020 Mannilall, 48, of Parcel 61 Queenstown, Essequibo Coast was killed just as he was entering his home with his family when they were confronted by two masked men.
The incident happened at about 20:00hrs.
The men were wearing helmets and were armed with a handgun and a cutlass.
Police said the firearm was discharged hitting Mannilall to his chest, shoulder and right side abdomen causing him to collapse after which the men fled the scene.
Munnilall was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.
