Two men accused of having three pounds of cannabis in their possession were remanded to prison on Monday by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Joel Amsterdam, 24 and Kevon Velloza, 27 were jointly charged with having 1.454 grams of cannabis in their possession on January 25, 2020, at First Avenue Bartica, for the purpose of trafficking.
The duo denied the charge and was remanded until February 24.
The court heard that Amsterdam and Velloza walked past the Bartica Police Station when ranks observed they acted suspiciously and requested to carry out a search on their person.
It is alleged that Velloza told Amsterdam to run; the cops gave chase and managed to catch the duo.
It is further alleged that the Police found a haversack in Velloza’s possession which contained the marijuana.
Meanwhile, Velloza was charged separately for assaulting and using threatening language towards Amsterdam on January 25, 2020, at the Bartica Police Station.
He admitted to the assault charge and was fined $10,000 but denied the threatening language charge.
