A wooden two-storey house collapsed in First Street, Campbellville, Georgetown around midday on Wednesday. There are no reported casualties as no one was inside the house at the time.

Residents had claimed that an elderly woman was reportedly trapped inside and as such a search and rescue mission was launched by the Fire Service.

However, it was subsequently found that the woman, identified as Florence Barker, was at the house of a relative alive and well.

According to residents, the woman lived at the house for years with her son. They claimed that she visited a clinic and had just returned home Wednesday when the house collapsed.

“On arrival, those first responders, they began searching manually and then we managed to get the aid of an equipment from a private contractor to remove some of the overburden and when that overburden was in the place of removing we got a phone call that the persons are not in the structure but with some relative,” Wickham said.
