It’s now a case of one day, two more matches to bring the curtains down on the third annual Magnum Futsal Mash Cup at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue. Saturday’s final pits emerging force Rio All-Stars against former champions Bent Street.
At a briefing held at Woodpecker Products on the eve of the epic showdown, organiser Esan Griffith lauded the teams for the discipline shown thus far and predicted it will be a riveting final given the quality of the two teams.
Rio reached the final after they topped Leopold Street 3-1 in the semi-final, while Bent Street got ahead of Kingston 5-3.
Troy Lambert of Rio and Nigel Denny of Kingston called on their supporters to come out in their numbers. Lambert, who was once the coach of Bent Street, noted that the calibre and bench strength of both sides make it difficult to predict the outcome.
Griffith appealed to persons to come out early with kick-off of the third-place match slated 20:30h.
Winner of the event will pocket $600,000 and the championship trophy, while the second place side will collect $400,000 and the corresponding trophy.
On the other hand, the third and fourth place unit will receive $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding trophy.
Among the other sponsors of the event are the National Sports Commission and MVP Sports.
