Guyana confirms second case of Coronavirus
The Ministry of Public Health has confirmed the second case of the Coronavirus in Guyana.
“The Ministry will provide further details subsequently. The Ministry urges all Guyanese to remain calm and take the necessary preventative measures and precautions as per the public advisories,” a statement from the Department of Public Information revealed.
The News Room understands that it is the husband of the first Coronavirus victim who tested positive for the virus. He is now under quarantine.
The first victim, a 52-year-old woman of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara died at the Georgetown Public Hospital on March 11 after recently arriving in the country from Queen’s New York.
Despite being placed under self-quarantined by the Health Ministry, the family of the woman did not adhere and broke protocol established to deal with the virus.
The family was adamant that the woman did not die from the virus and noted that she was diabetic and hypertensive.
The Government has decided to close all schools in the country for two weeks effective Monday, March 16.
