Taxi driver accused of raping multiple women to face High Court trial

Taxi driver Lindon Daniels, who is accused of raping multiple women, was on Wednesday committed to face trial in the High Court for another rape charge.

Daniels is accused of driving victims to a lonely area and raping them. It is further alleged that he would take away their phones and drive away after committing the act.

In one instance, he was committed to stand trial by City Magistrate Sherdel Isccas-Marcus for allegedly having sex with a woman over 17 without her consent on January 30, 2019, at Kuru-Kuru, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara. He was also accused of stealing the woman’s $37,000 cellphone on the same day in question.

The Magistrate found that there was enough evidence for him to face a Judge and Jury; he remains on  $300,000 bail until the next practical sitting of the Demerara Assizes.

Daniels is currently awaiting the start of another trial at the High Court after he was charged with raping a girl under the age of 16.

This incident reportedly occurred on February 13, 2019, at New Providence, East Bank Demerara,

Daniels is also accused of another rape which alleged that on February 18, 2019, at New Providence, EBD, he engaged in sexual activity with a woman over the age of 17.

Daniels was also charged with assaulting a woman on February 11, 2019, at the New Providence Public Road by pulling down her underwear. He pleaded not guilty to this charge.

It is also alleged that Daniels stole the woman’s Samsung cellphone valued $45,000 to which he pleaded not guilty.
