Director of Prisons (ag) Gladwin Samuels revealed Thursday that 29-year-old prison escapee, Christopher Punch was recaptured on April 14, more than a month after he escaped from the Mazaruni prison.

Punch escaped on February 29, 2020 while he was signed out to do labour at the prison farms.

He was recaptured at the corner of Norton and John Streets in Georgetown by members of the Guyana Police Force who were on patrol.

He has since been handed over to prison authorities.

The Prisons Director, in a statement, noted that charges will be instituted as soon as Punch is reviewed and cleared by the medical department for COVID-19.

He will also be isolated for 14 days from the general prison population.

Prior to his escape, Punch was imprisoned for four counts of “larceny of motorcycle” and was serving four two (2) year sentences, running consecutively.

He also has one count of attempted larceny for which he is sentenced to one-year imprisonment. The one year is running concurrently with one of the two-year sentences.
