Commissioner of the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC), Neaz Subhan says he is recovering from the COVID-19 disease and is urging other persons to take precautions to protect themselves.

According to Subhan, Friday marks 40 days since he has been in quarantine and subsequently isolation.

“It continues to be extremely challenging especially mentally as I try to cope,” the 53-year-old man said in a post on Facebook.

“Many lessons have been learnt which have humbled me… I wouldn’t want anyone to experience what befell me,” he added.

Subhan was diagnosed with the disease in late March.

“I am told that some people, me being an example, take longer than the expected 14 days to clear the virus.”

According to Subhan, over the past few weeks, he has improved and is without any symptoms but is unaware of how much longer it will take for him to be entirely cleared of the disease.

Urging everyone to heed all precautions in order to curb the spread of the disease, Subhan said the effects of COVID-19 are devastating, especially around the globe.

He expressed gratitude to his family, friends and well-wishers as well as Doctors, Nurses and support staff at the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was hospitalised for a period of time.
