Prison escapee recaptured in Parika

Ganesh Dhanraj, 32, who escaped from the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara on April 20 was caught in inside a car at Parika, East Bank Essequibo on Saturday afternoon.

Director of Prisons Gladwin Samuels revealed that Police, acting on information received, went to the Parika Bus Park where the escapee was seen in a motor car at around 14:10h.

He was questioned and then escorted to the Parika Police Station where he was further questioned.

“Prison authorities, on receipt of the notification, went to the Parika Police Station where his identity was further confirmed.  He was then transported to prison.

“The GPS [Guyana Prison Service] commends the police for their swift action, and commends the members of the public for feeling safe and confident to provide the information to the police,” Samuels said.

Dhanraj is among four persons who escaped from the Lusignan Holding Bay on April 20. He is on remand for murder.

On May 5, Police recaptured Anthony ‘Kevin’ Padmore in a house at La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast Demerara..

On April 30, Police recaptured 24-year-old Sasenarine Bisnauth in the cane fields aback Beterverwagting Sideline Dam, ECD.

Still on the run is 26-year-old Kenraul Perez, who was on remand for murder.
