PME finds Bartica businesswoman was murdered

A post mortem examination conducted on the body of 28-year-old Rosella Smith revealed that she died as a result of asphyxiation due to drowning by manual strangulation.

The post mortem was performed by Government Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh on Monday.

Smith, a businesswoman of Bamford Point Bartica was found dead in an abandoned mining pit at Three Miles Karrau Backdam on May 15.

Regional Commander Senior Superintendent, Linden Lord told the News Room that the suspect, identified as ‘Blackboy’, is still being sought.

Smith was last seen in the company of Blackboy before she died; she was selling goods from a make-shift camp in the backdam.

The Commander said ranks visited the suspect’s home on Monday but did not find him and they are now in the process of preparing a wanted bulletin.

Police Headquarters had reported that Smith’s camp was ransacked and persons saw the suspect leaving the area with a bag and bucket at about 11:00h on the day in question.

Police said no marks of violence were found on her body but there was blood around her nostrils.
