Teen bandit killed by Police, accomplice on the run
Nineteen-year-old Kevin ‘Cross Eye’ Thomas, of South Sophia, Greater Georgetown was shot dead by a Police Officer at about 02:30hrs Monday.
The incident occurred at Victoria Road, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Police Headquarters in a statement said ranks were conducting a mobile patrol in the area when they observed two males acting suspiciously on a motorcycle.
Police alleged that the two men had just stolen the motorcycle CK 1893 from a 50-year-old man of La Bonne Intention, ECD when they saw the police patrol and sped away.
While in hot pursuit, the pillion rider on the motorcycle took out a handgun and open fire on the ranks, who returned fire and one of the bullets struck Thomas.
Both the shooter and Thomas fell off the bike, but the shooter managed to get up and escaped. Police are now hunting for him.
Thomas was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
The motorcycle was reported stolen Monday morning.
According to the owner of the motorcycle, he was alerted by dogs barking and ventured out on a bicycle to investigate when he saw two males riding away with the motorcycle.
Police said the man tried to stop the bandits by throwing the bicycle in their path but they swerved and fled the area.
Thomas was remanded to prison on January 20, 2019, for allegedly robbing a man at knifepoint on Regent Street of a cellphone and other items amounting to $14,000.
