At the end of Wednesday, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) completed the recounting of 789 ballot boxes so far.

Of the total, 732 Statements of Recount were tabulated for General Election and 736 for Regional Election.

Wednesday marks 15 days since the process began.

Public Relations Officer Yolanda Ward said 18 boxes were counted for Region Three, 14 for Region Four, 13 for Region Five, 20 for Region Six and six for Region Seven.

The Commission has completed the recount and tabulation for Regions One and Two with the People’s Progressive Party winning most votes in both regions.

GECOM is working with twelve recount stations having added two more on Tuesday to speed up the process.

Earlier on Wednesday, Ward told the media that Chairperson of GECOM Justice (ret’d) Claudette Singh has undertaken to write a letter to the National COVID-19 Task Force (NCTF) to get approval for two additional work stations.

She said the addition will be done after another assessment from the NCTF.

“That correspondence will be dispatched within the shortest possible time,” she said.

Ward added that while some persons suggested that the Commission makes its decision without the NCTF’s involvement, “We have to ensure we do not put people’s lives at risk.”

She said it is important to solicit advice from professional persons who are on the Task Force.

See below the remaining boxes to be counted.
