Tragedy struck a Kambaru Village, Region Seven family Thursday evening after a tree fell on their kitchen while they were having dinner during heavy rainfall.
As a result, nine-year-old Cindy John and her grandmother, 54-year-old Desiree John were pinned under the tree; the child was pronounced dead on arrival at the Imbaimadai Health Post while the grandmother succumbed to her injuries on Friday at around 11:30h at the same health center.
The News Room understands that the incident occurred on the family’s farm at Panduck Creek, Imbamadai, Upper Mazaruni at around 18:20h Thursday.
The owner of the farm, Benneth John told Police that his wife, his 21-year-old daughter and their three young grandchildren were having dinner in the kitchen when the tree collapsed on them.
The others managed to escape unhurt.
