A post-mortem examination has found that Calvin Hamilton, whose body was found floating in a well at Puruni Landing, Mazaruni River on Sunday, was murdered.

Government pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh concluded that Hamilton died from blunt trauma to head and asphyxiation due to drowning compounded by compression injuries to neck.

The body was identified by Hamilton’s sister and handed over to relatives for cremation.

The 29-year-old miner of Aranaputa Village, Annai Region 9 was employed with Hard Hock Mining Company as a pitman.

The General Manager of the company, who is a Brazilian national, told Police that Hamilton left the mining camp on Friday last at about 16:00h for Puruni Landing. He was then seen drinking at a bar and subsequently left at about 19:00h.

Hamilton’s body was discovered after the owner of the bar told his employee to pump water from the well located about 400 feet away from the bar.

His partially decomposed body was found floating in the well at about 17:00h on Sunday.
