One dead, four injured in strip club shooting

A young taxi driver is now dead and four others are seriously injured following an early morning shooting at the Magic City Nightclub located on Garnett Street, Georgetown on Sunday.

Dead is 21-year-old Raymond Lindo, who resided at Diamond Housing Scheme on the East Bank of Demerara.

The injured were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where one is listed in a critical condition with four gunshot injuries.

A concerned resident told the News Room that it has become a trend for gunshots to be fired at the nightclub which is a well known strip club in the city. The resident said at about 03:30h loud gunshots were heard and persons were seen fleeing from the scene. The resident said one person was seen lying on the ground with gunshot wounds after the shooting.

The resident further stated that the nightclub is open on week nights and the weekends despite the COVID-19 regulations which restrict the operations of bars and clubs.

The Guyana Police Force has not officially released any information on the shooting. When contacted Regional Detective Officer, Senior Superintendent Julius Wright said ranks were still on the ground investigating.
