India’s Prime Minister congratulates President Irfaan Ali

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has extended congratulations to newly elected President of Guyana Dr Irfaan Ali.

Modi, in a letter to the President on Tuesday, said the two countries enjoy close and cordial relations based on the foundations of democracy, shared culture and history.

“There is tremendous potential to further enhance economic, cultural and people-to-people ties between our countries,” Prime Minister Modi wrote.

The Indian Prime Minister said he looks forward to advancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation in all fora and including in the UN and CARICOM for the mutual benefit of the citizens.

“I take this opportunity to convey to Your Excellency my best wishes for your personal well-being and for the progress and prosperity of the friendly people of Guyana,” Modi added.

Ali was declared the ninth Executive President of Guyana on August 2 after a five-month electoral process. He was sworn in on the same day and proceeded to appoint members of his cabinet on August 5.

Ali, at 40 years old is the youngest President to serve Guyana.
