Police ranks on Thursday night shot 27-year-old Dwayne ‘Top Cat’ Castello during an exchange of gunfire at Genip Lane, East Ruimveldt Georgetown.

Police Headquarters revealed that Castello was shot to the left foot; he was wanted for the murder of 23-year-old Navindra Samaroo and a series of robberies. Samaroo was gunned down in broad daylight on Middle Road, La Penitence on July 23, 2020.

Police acting on information received went to Genip Lane where Castello upon seeing the ranks attempted to escape on a black motorcycle.

However, when the ranks came out of the Police vehicle, Castello pulled out a gun from his pants and began shooting at them. As a result, one of the ranks returned fire and shot Castello.

He was subsequently arrested and searched and Police found a 9mm pistol with six live matching rounds in the magazine.

Castello was then taken to Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is being treated and remains under Police guard.

In November 2017, Castello was sentenced to two years imprisonment for the illegal possession of a gun and was remanded on a series of armed robbery charges along with escaping police custody.

Castello had appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he admitted that on November 22, 2017, at Middle Road, West La Penitence, he had a .40 pistol in his possession when he is not a licensed firearm holder.
