Less than 24 hours after three COVID-19 deaths were recorded, Guyana on Sunday recorded another fatality pushing the overall death toll from this dreaded disease to 56.
The Ministry of Health announced that the latest fatality is an 83-year-old woman from Demerara/Mahaica (Region 4) who died while receiving care at a medical facility.
“The test sample was collected from the deceased at the time of admission and tested positive for COVID-19 subsequently,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry did not state when or where the patient died.
Guyana’s COVID-19 situation continues to worsen with more deaths and cases reported; the number of deaths has increased significantly in the month of August.
As of September 12, Guyana recorded 1,763 cases of COVID-19 including the 56 deaths and 1,144 recoveries.
There are 554 active cases in isolation: 46 in institutional isolation and 508 in home isolation.
