A speeding Banks DIH truck resulted in a three-vehicle smash-up on the Trafalgar Public Road, West Coast Berbice Friday morning leaving the 38-year-old driver of a Bakewell lorry nursing serious injuries at the Dr Balwant Singh’s Hospital.
The injured driver of Non-Pariel, East Coast Demerara is said to be in a serious condition at the hospital fighting for his life.
Police Headquarters in a statement noted that the Banks DIH truck, which was being driven by a 32-year-old male, was proceeding east along the road at a fast rate of speed while a car was proceeding in the opposite direction in front of the Bakewell truck.
The driver of the Banks DIH truck told the Police that a truck suddenly stopped in front of him and so he applied brakes, pulled to the left and then to the right when he collided with the rear of the car. This caused the truck to spin after which it crashed into the right side front of the Bakewell truck.
As a result, the driver of the Bakewell truck was pinned inside the vehicle; he was extracted with the help of public-spirited persons and taken to Fort Wellington Public Hospital in a conscious condition and later transferred to the private hospital in Georgetown.
The accident occurred at about 09:15h.
