A prisoner in Holding Bay 2 at the Lusignan Prison was attacked and stabbed about the body Friday night by two other inmates.

Director of Prisons Gladwin Samuels in statement said Aszim Shivgobin is currently hospitalized under police guard. Shivgobin was remanded to prison on August 28 for being involved in the gruesome murder of Canadian national 23-year-old Nicholas Ramkissoon Jaipaul whose burnt remains were found in a clump of bushes a short distance off the Moleson Creek Public Road.

“He was able to identify his attackers, and other prisoners also identified these same persons as Shivgobin’s attackers,” Samuels stated.

According to Samuels quick response by Officers on duty with the assistance of other prisoners prevented a second prisoner from being attacked.

The improvised weapon used has also been retrieved.

“It is alleged that Shivgobin and the other prisoner were targeted for execution by another prisoner,” Samuels said.

The matter was reported and an investigation is underway.
