29-Y-0 man dies from COVID-19

A 29-year-old man from Region Seven (Cuyuni- Mazaruni) died from COVID-19 on Sunday, taking Guyana’s death toll to 145.

The Ministry of Health in a statement said he died while receiving care at a medical facility. He would be the 19th person to die for the month so far.

The Ministry also officially announced the death of an 89-year-old man from Region Six (East Berbice – Corentyne).

The News Room had earlier reported that the elderly man, who resided in the indigenous community of Siparuta, suffered a stroke after he was swabbed for the virus in the village, but he died at the Skeldon hospital before the results came back positive on Saturday.

Guyana on Sunday recorded 40 new COVID-19 cases from 330 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases to 5, 133.
