Suspected bandit shot dead in Eccles identified


A suspected bandit who was shot dead Friday night at Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara has been identified as 29-year-old Zadan Mohamed of Annandale Pump Road, East Coast Demerara.

Police Headquarters in a statement said Mohamed was shot by a 28-year-old security guard employed with Delta Security Service. The security guard is in police custody assisting with the investigation.

The News Room had reported that the shooting occurred at about 21:45h; the security officer alleged that he observed two unidentifiable men in the compound of Sueria Manufacturing, located at Lot 70 Industrial Site, Eccles.

The security guard reported that upon approaching the men, one of them fired a shot at him and in return, he took cover and returned fire.

As a result, Mohamed was shot, while the other escaped by scaling the fence.

Police have since recovered a 12 gauge spent shell which was lodged along with the shotgun and five cartridges.
