Within 24hours of escaping from the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara on Wednesday 25-year-old Ishaka John was recaptured.
Director of Prisons (ag), Nicklon Elliot in a statement revealed that John was recaptured along the Mon Repos, ECD Railway Embankment at about 20:00h. Elliot said police were tipped off.
“The Prison Administration would like to express thanks to the ranks of the Guyana Police Force for their commitment and dedication that led to the speedy recapture of the prisoner,” Elliot stated.
John escaped from the prison holding bay sometime between 02:00h and 02:20h earlier on Wednesday.
He was seen by three ranks of both the Police Force and the Prison Service while he was on top of a fence. As a result several shots were fired in an effort to apprehend him but he continued to run in an eastern direction between tower four, five and six.
An investigation was also been launched into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
